Sumatra relief initiative

KuCoin is supporting the Sumatra relief initiative in partnership with Yayasan Srikandi Merah Putih, the Global CSR Foundation, and the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA). The program will deliver 5,000 menstrual hygiene kits, along with medicines and fresh food, to disaster-affected communities in Aceh and Medan. Distribution is scheduled to begin in early April 2026.

The effort focuses on protecting both health and dignity for women impacted by disasters. Organizers say that while women often face the greatest challenges during crises, their essential healthcare needs are frequently overlooked.

Supporting Women Through the Sumatra Relief Initiative

The Sumatra relief initiative builds on the Menstrual Equity Project, previously implemented in The Bahamas, Suriname, and clinics affiliated with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The program now expands into Indonesia to address urgent humanitarian needs.

Aurelly Syifalia Widihartanto, Co-Founder of Yayasan Srikandi Merah Putih, emphasized that effective disaster response must deliver care respectfully and responsibly. Therefore, the initiative prioritizes timely access to hygiene supplies and medical support.

Strategic Partnerships Enable Faster Aid

KuCoin is funding the procurement and shipment of hygiene kits, ensuring supplies reach affected communities quickly. According to CSR Director Sylvie Dong, corporate responsibility means providing practical support when disasters disrupt lives.

Meanwhile, Maha Medicare will lead on-the-ground distribution in Aceh and Medan. The organization has already assisted flood-affected communities and brings valuable regional experience to the operation.

Broad Support Strengthens Community Recovery

The Sumatra relief initiative has gained backing from government representatives, regional leaders, and public figures. H. Teuku Badruddin Syah, Sultan of Aceh, and national stakeholders have expressed support, highlighting strong collaboration across sectors.

Additionally, Indonesian actors including Baim Wong and Rianti Cartwright are helping raise awareness about women’s health and dignity in disaster response. Their involvement is expected to expand public engagement and encourage broader support.

The initiative was formally introduced during a press event in Jakarta, bringing together foundation leaders, medical experts, business executives, and media representatives.

As recovery efforts continue, verified impact reports and documentation will be released after distribution. Ultimately, the Sumatra relief initiative demonstrates how cross-sector partnerships can deliver meaningful aid while promoting long-term community resilience.
