athenahealth, a leading provider of network-enabled software and services for medical practices and health systems nationwide, today announced the launch of Ambient Notes, an innovative solution designed to reduce the burden of clinical note documentation by integrating ambient listening and generative AI technology directly into the athenaOne experience. Currently in limited release with select customers, this new solution builds on athenahealth’s continued commitment to empowering clinicians to deliver the best possible outcomes with cutting-edge technology and embedded services designed for the needs of practices and the patients they serve.
We created Ambient Notes to bring the latest advancements in AI technologies directly into the clinical workflow to save valuable time during visit encounters and reduce after-hours documentation
In addition to being uniquely integrated into the clinical workflow, athenahealth’s Ambient Notes offering introduces a new level of flexibility and personalization to clinical note generation. As the only EHR that supports multiple AI-powered ambient models simultaneously, practices and clinicians can switch seamlessly between industry-leading models based on individual needs and preferences.
“Ambient Notes is a game-changer for our practice and providers,” said Dr. Lynn Joffe, MD, MSPH at DTC Family Health. “At DTC Family Health, we strive to provide comprehensive health care to all our patients, and this means doing everything we can to maximize our time spent with each patient during a visit encounter. Ambient Notes is already reducing our clinical documentation time, which is enhancing our provider-patient engagement during encounters. As a busy practice with back-to-back appointments, we appreciate how easy it is to use without the need to toggle between systems, and how quickly and efficiently the solution documents notes without compromising accuracy.”
Clinicians using Ambient Notes will be able to select from multiple innovative Ambient note models, all integrated directly into the athenaOne experience. Initial available models are:
- Suki AI – Suki’s award-winning solution uses generative AI to tackle tedious administrative tasks including documentation, coding, and answering questions, helping clinicians reduce documentation time by an average of 72%. Suki supports clinicians across 99 specialties and is currently used by more than 200 athenahealth customers, lifting the administrative burden so they can focus on what matters most: their patients. Suki is currently available as part of the Ambient Notes limited release.
- iScribe AI – iScribe AI from iScribeHealth is transforming clinical documentation through its unique combination of Ambient AI and patented EHR integration technology. iScribe AI contextualizes provider-patient conversations, streamlining workflows for physicians across all specialties and provider types. By reducing clicks and eliminating after-hours documentation burdens, this innovative solution allows healthcare professionals to focus on delivering exceptional patient care.
The ability to choose and switch ambient models allows individual clinicians to select the technology that best aligns to their documentation style, and test different models until they find the one that works best for their practice and specialty. With each model, clinicians will be able to activate ambient listening, conduct a visit, and have AI-generated notes directly placed into the patient encounter for the clinician’s review in seconds, all without leaving athenaOne. Additional models are expected to be added into Ambient Notes over time, allowing users access to the most innovative AI technology to improve both clinician and patient experience.
“Clinicians are constantly trying to balance demanding schedules and documentation burdens with a desire to deliver the best patient care and be fully present during every visit. We created Ambient Notes to bring the latest advancements in AI technologies directly into the clinical workflow to save valuable time during visit encounters and reduce after-hours documentation,” said Paul Brient, chief product officer at athenahealth. “Our approach will give clinicians the unique flexibility and freedom to choose among leading ambient models that are best matched to the way they practice, regardless of what their colleagues select.”
