CSX data modernization

CSX Data Modernization with Infosys and Microsoft

CSX data modernization has reached a major milestone as Infosys announced the successful completion of a large-scale transformation program for CSX Corporation. Built using Infosys Topaz™ and powered by Microsoft technologies including Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Purview, the initiative represents one of the largest data platform deployments in the transportation and logistics sector.

The program consolidated CSX’s fragmented data systems into a single, cloud-native, governed platform. As a result, the company improved reporting efficiency, enhanced decision-making capabilities and reduced operational costs.

How CSX Data Modernization Streamlined Operations

Infosys led the end-to-end transformation, replacing legacy infrastructure with a unified data environment. Notably, the modernization consolidated more than 50,000 legacy reports into just 1,200 actionable insights using Microsoft Fabric.

In addition, automated metadata governance was implemented across 28 domains. Over 170 data products were created to support AI accelerators, self-service analytics and Azure monitoring. Through close collaboration between Infosys and Microsoft, CSX accelerated program delivery while aligning technology investments with business goals.

Consequently, CSX achieved significant annual infrastructure savings and established a foundation for predictive analytics, logistics optimization and enterprise-wide operational intelligence.

Microsoft Fabric Powers AI-Ready Infrastructure

According to John Maio, AVP, Enterprise Data & Analytics at CSX, the transformation has empowered teams with real-time intelligence and AI-driven decision-making. By leveraging Microsoft Fabric’s intelligent data platform, CSX strengthened governance, reduced manual effort and enabled automation at scale.

Arun Ulag, President of Azure Data at Microsoft, highlighted how Microsoft Fabric unified CSX’s enterprise data estate while accelerating time-to-insight. Meanwhile, Infosys emphasized that its AI-first approach through Infosys Topaz™ helped position CSX as an AI-ready organization.

Setting a Benchmark in Transportation and Logistics

This strategic collaboration demonstrates how cloud-native data platforms can modernize complex enterprise environments. More importantly, it shows how transportation leaders can leverage AI, governance and analytics to drive measurable business impact.

With a unified and scalable data foundation now in place, CSX is better positioned to anticipate disruptions, optimize operations and deliver enhanced customer experiences across its rail network.
